The roots of BagBuddy24 go back to 2003, when ZeitLager Self Storage became one of the pioneers of the self-storage market in Munich. What began as a vision to create more space for people and businesses grew into a successful operation with four locations and more than 28,000 m² of rentable space.
After ZeitLager was sold to Shurgard in 2020, it quickly became clear to the founders, Christopher Mohr and Roland Tubbesing, that their journey was far from over. While many industries were being transformed by digitalization and automation in the post-COVID years, they did not see this as a threat – but as an opportunity.
This led to the creation of ZeitLager City GmbH, with the goal of reimagining self-storage from the ground up. In the years that followed, they developed an innovative booking and CRM system, combined with digitally controlled locks. The result: a 100% digital solution, bookable online around the clock, allowing customers to rent, open, and manage their storage units or lockers comfortably via smartphone.
In 2022, the first pilot location opened – serving as a testing ground for innovation, technology, and customer experience. The system proved its strength especially during a stress test at Munich’s Oktoberfest, handling hundreds of bookings in a single day – fully automated, reliable, and customer-friendly.
2024 marked the next milestone: the launch of the franchise model, designed to carry the vision beyond Munich. A presence at the German Franchise Fair in Frankfurt opened the doors to partners across the country. At the same time, ZeitLager City GmbH acquired a stake in ItFits Ltd. in New York, bringing the concept into international operation.
With this global direction, a new brand name was created: BagBuddy24. It stands for comfort, trust, and technology – and for a system that is truly like no other.
By the end of 2025, BagBuddy24 had already recorded over 50,000 bookings across more than ten locations – clear proof that digital simplicity, modern design, and outstanding service can redefine standards even in a traditional market.
